What problem does this solve?

Estimate a final balance, contributions and interest under a constant rate, with a schedule by compounding period.

Step by step in ViBytes Tools

  1. Enter initial capital and annual rate; choose effective or nominal.
  2. Choose years, frequency, contribution per period and beginning or end timing.
  3. Calculate and inspect the schedule; reset to compare assumptions.

Worked example and how to check it

Input: Initial capital 1000, effective annual rate 10%, two years, no contributions.

Expected result: Final balance 1210; total contributed 1000; interest 210.

Common mistakes and decisions

Do not enter a monthly contribution while selecting yearly frequency: the field means a contribution every selected period. Effective and nominal rates with the same percentage can differ when compounding several times per year. Keep other assumptions unchanged when comparing scenarios.

Limits before you continue

  • Excludes inflation, taxes and fees. A constant-rate simulation is not a guaranteed investment return.
  • Nominal rates are divided by frequency; effective rates use equivalent periodic rates. Contributions occur each period, not necessarily monthly.

Frequently asked question

Do beginning and end contributions give the same result?

At a positive rate, a beginning contribution earns interest during that period; an end contribution does not. With zero initial capital, a contribution of 100 and 10% for one year, the results are 110 at the beginning and 100 at the end.
