Loan calculator

Estimate monthly payments, interest and an amortization schedule.

Enter your values, review the period and select Calculate. Calculations run in your browser; your financial data is neither sent nor saved. The page downloads software resources.

Educational estimates assume constant rates and exclude taxes, fees, inflation and insurance. They are not an offer or financial advice. Loans use a nominal annual rate divided by twelve; this is not the total cost of credit. The savings calculator converts an effective annual rate to the chosen frequency. Contributions occur every compounding period.

Amounts from 0 to 1,000,000,000, up to two decimal places. Rates from 0 to 100%, up to six decimal places. Use a decimal point or comma without thousands separators. Use the same currency for all amounts.

What this tool does

Calculate a fixed monthly payment and amortization schedule for a constant nominal annual interest rate.

Variables and assumptions

Principal is the borrowed amount, the nominal annual rate is divided by twelve, and the term is a number of monthly payments. The model assumes regular payments and a constant rate; insurance and fees are excluded.

How to interpret the result

Each payment covers interest on the outstanding balance and repays principal. With a positive rate, more interest is usually paid at the beginning. Total paid includes principal and interest; it is not a complete borrowing cost measure. The final payment is adjusted in cents to close the balance.

Educational estimate; not personalized financial advice or a commercial offer.

How to use it

  1. Enter the principal, nominal annual rate and number of monthly payments.
  2. Calculate to see payment, totals and outstanding balance.
  3. Page through the schedule; change inputs to calculate again.

Verifiable example

Input
Principal 1200, nominal annual rate 0%, twelve payments.
Expected result
Twelve payments of 100; interest 0; final balance 0.

Limitations to review

  • The nominal rate is not the total cost of credit. Insurance, fees and taxes are excluded.
  • Accounting uses cents and adjusts the final payment to close the balance. Up to 600 monthly payments, with amount and rate limits.
