What this tool does
Inspect static JPEG, PNG and WebP headers and a bounded EXIF subset. Encoded dimensions and file properties are distinguished from capture time.
How to use it
- Select a compatible local image.
- Choose Read metadata and review the format, dimensions and file properties.
- Inspect supported EXIF fields and the GPS warning before sharing the image.
Verifiable example
- Input
- A synthetic 80 × 60 JPEG with Make=ViBytes Tools Fixture and DateTimeOriginal=2024:01:02 03:04:05.
- Expected result
- image/jpeg, 80 × 60, literal make and EXIF date; file modification time appears separately.
Limitations to review
- Up to 5 MiB, 8 megapixels and 4096 px per side; EXIF up to 256 KiB and 128 entries per IFD. Only supported make, model, orientation and EXIF dates.
- No XMP/IPTC/MakerNote reading or metadata removal. Detecting a GPS directory does not verify coordinates; absence does not prove privacy. Dates do not certify authenticity.
