Open Resize images

What problem does this solve?

Change the actual resolution of the downloaded image, preserving aspect ratio by default.

Step by step in ViBytes Tools

  1. Load a static image within the limits.
  2. Set a reference width or height; choose aspect ratio and whether upscaling is allowed.
  3. Process and check the downloaded file dimensions.

Worked example and how to check it

Input: 800 × 600 image; output width 400 with aspect ratio enabled.

Expected result: 400 × 300 pixels.

Common mistakes and decisions

Choose one reference dimension when keeping aspect ratio. Disabling that option allows independent width and height and may stretch the image. Upscaling must be explicit: extra pixels do not create new detail. Check downloaded file properties rather than its displayed browser size.

Limits before you continue

  • Upscaling cannot recover missing detail. Preview CSS size is different from file resolution.
  • Up to 5 MiB, 8 megapixels and 4096 pixels per side. EXIF orientation is applied; transparency depends on format.

Frequently asked question

Does 800×600 resized to width 400 become 400×300?

Yes, with aspect ratio enabled. Setting an independent height changes the result and may distort it.
