What problem does this solve?

Convert a static image between JPEG, PNG and WebP with an encoder supported by your browser.

Step by step in ViBytes Tools

  1. Select a valid image and the output format.
  2. For JPEG, review the background replacing transparent pixels.
  3. Process, download and reopen the image to inspect colors and details.

Worked example and how to check it

Input: Transparent PNG converted to JPEG on a white background.

Expected result: A JPEG without an alpha channel; transparent areas use the selected background.

Common mistakes and decisions

JPEG cannot retain alpha: the selected background becomes part of the image. PNG can suit graphics with transparency but does not guarantee a smaller file. WebP depends on encoder availability. Reopen the output and check its actual format, not just the filename.

Limits before you continue

  • Up to 5 MiB input, 8 megapixels and 4096 pixels per side. Animations are unsupported.
  • JPEG and WebP may lose quality. Renaming an extension does not convert an image; the actual format is checked.

Frequently asked question

Does renaming .png to .jpg convert the file?

No. Conversion requires decoding and encoding in the chosen format. The tool rejects inconsistent signatures or types.
