What problem does this solve?
Read a classic ZIP directory and headers, showing names and declared sizes, methods and CRCs without extraction.
Step by step in ViBytes Tools
- Select a ZIP file and run inspection.
- Page through entries and review warnings.
- Download the JSON report if you need to keep the directory listing.
Worked example and how to check it
Input: A stored ZIP containing one three-byte file.
Expected result: The entry declares compressed and uncompressed sizes of 3; its contents are not verified.
Common mistakes and decisions
The report shows declared metadata, not verified contents. A small ZIP does not imply cheap extraction. Path and executable warnings are limited directory signals; do not open an unknown file merely because no warning appears.
Limits before you continue
- Up to 10 MiB, 500 entries, 1,024 bytes per name and 200 MiB declared uncompressed. Stored/Deflate, with ASCII or UTF-8 names.
- ZIP64, encrypted, multipart and self-extracting archives are rejected. No CRC, actual integrity or malware validation; files are never extracted.
Frequently asked question
Does it validate CRC or extract files?
No. It neither decompresses nor extracts, and does not verify actual CRCs. The download is a JSON directory report, not the archived files.
