Open Base64 encoder and decoder

What problem does this solve?

Encode or decode UTF-8 text using standard or URL-safe Base64 with padding and pad-bit validation.

Step by step in ViBytes Tools

  1. Enter text or Base64 according to the selected operation.
  2. Choose standard with padding or URL-safe without padding.
  3. Process and copy the full result even if the preview is partial.

Worked example and how to check it

Input: Text hello, standard encoding.

Expected result: aGVsbG8=; decoding returns hello.

Common mistakes and decisions

Base64 represents bytes: accented letters and emoji are first encoded as UTF-8. Standard mode uses +, / and = padding; this tool’s URL-safe mode uses - and _ without padding. Do not mix alphabets or treat decoded text as executable code.

Limits before you continue

  • Base64 is not encryption and does not hide secrets. This tool accepts UTF-8 text, not arbitrary binary files.
  • Up to 100,000 UTF-16 units. Only spaces, tabs and CR/LF are ignored when decoding; invalid UTF-8 is rejected.

Frequently asked question

Can I use it to hide a password?

No. Anyone can decode it; it provides neither confidentiality nor authentication. Avoid entering unnecessary secrets.
