Open Word and character counter
What problem does this solve?
Count words, visible graphemes, characters without spaces and lines as you enter text.
Step by step in ViBytes Tools
- Paste or type text within the limit.
- Read the four metrics and their definitions.
- Reset to clear the input and its results.
Worked example and how to check it
Input: The text “Hello world” on one line.
Expected result: 2 words, 11 visible characters and 1 line.
Common mistakes and decisions
An emoji can occupy several UTF-16 units but one visible grapheme. The input limit therefore differs from the visible count. Spaces are included in visible characters; line breaks are counted separately. Word segmentation depends on language and browser behavior.
Limits before you continue
- Graphemes differ from UTF-16 units: an emoji or combined letter may span several units. Line breaks are excluded from visible characters.
- Up to 100,000 UTF-16 units. Requires Intl.Segmenter; CRLF and CR are treated as LF.
Frequently asked question
Does an empty box contain one line?
This tool reports zero. Non-empty text may include a final empty line when it ends with a line break; compare definitions before comparing another editor.
